    Depends on your circumstances.

Do you have any dependants, or a disability?

Are you going back to the same course, or a different one?

How old are you? (You don't have to be exact if you'd rather not!) x

JSA wouldn't normally be paid if your course continues in the new term. You will still be classed as a student as you will actually be continuing a course.

Remember it's also probably financially better to work as just 10 or so hours per week will be more wages than JSA as well as giving you skills and being a reference for the future.

Kind of the same sentiment but not quite so 'to the point'... (!)

Any of my friends that went to uni just worked in a warehouse or a pub while on their summer holidays....

Do you realise how low JSA is? Probably more hassle than it's worth and far less satisfying than coming home with £500 a week (after tax too!) from working like a dog!

bizzy did say that she only wanted to claim whilst looking for a job!

But yes, everyone is correct, as a continuing student with no dependants you will not be able to claim JSA in the summer.

But to go through all that paperwork / interviews / admin etc just for 12 weeks of JSA is hardly worth it - it won't even be enough money to have an enjoyable time off Uni with anyway I'm sure!

That is true. Not very MSE but I think I'd rather live off nothing than go through the hassle, plus the indignity that they put you through at the Jobcentre.

Were you picking, packing, sticking and stacking for 12 hours a day, 5 days a week (at least) and getting £8 per hour and also doing deliveries for local take away restaurants?

Problem is some people aren't willing to work that hard and then complain when they don't have any money.

My brother was one of the wealthiest students around but only due to his hard work in the holidays - never took money off our parents either! (got a 2:1 at York so there's no argument for it affecting his degree)
