Clinical Coder for NHS

I know this is a long shot but is anyone a clinical coder? Or does anyone know someone who is one.
Somehow I have managed to blag an interview for a trainee coder position. I've looked into what the job entails and I am confident in my ability that I'd be able to do the job.
However there isn't many personal testimonies around on the net, and I'd love to know if people enjoy their job.
Thanks if there is anyone who can help.

I only know of one individual, she left as she felt the job was becoming soul destroying.
You can obtain the job profile to give a bit of detail around the role competancies.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -

Hi,
I'm a clinical coder in the NHS and have been for the last 6 years. I love my job but it definitely isn't for everyone. Your day consists of reading through patients records and the computer system to find all the relevant codeable information needed. It takes quite a while to feel competent at the role. It took me over a year to feel able to code without help. You record all the patients diagnosis plus infections, causes of injury, past medical history and any drugs, scans or operations performed. Everything and anything is coded.
The job involves a lot of sleuthing and reading from notes and inputting the codes onto the computer system. I would definatley recomed it as a career as it is very interesting and also broad scope to move into other areas and develop. There is a real shortage of coders and once qualified you can contract yourself out and make quite a bit more money if that way inclined.
Good luck with your interview and if you want to know anything else just ask0 -
hi ShakerMaker
I've only just seen your reply now. I did get offered the job however I had also gone for a job interview for a medical secretary which is a role I am more experienced and comfortable with, so I accepted that instead.Emergency savings: £0 saved / £4000 target0
