purple734533, most of the group shots in your photos have people looking elsewhere rather than at you, I take it you were a guest with a camera at these weddings, have you actually photographed a wedding yourself?

Who is best to go to to get good quality photo books printed? We had the DVD with copyright option and have sorted through the photographs. We have 145 really nice photos out of our collection of over 300 good photos. All 300 of them will make an online album but I'd like a nice album for the 145.

    Any advice is greatly appreciated

I've got several photobooks from blurb and would highly recommend them. I've not seen any others that have the same quality finish and they have really good colours.

That said, there are much cheaper places about...

We r going with Blurb thanks to Idios recommendation. They have sample sheets that they will send to you, so you actually know what you are buying! We r waiting for ours to come through. It does cost a fiver, but they take it off if you order through them.

Hope you're happy with the samples - we're really pleased with the books we've got from them.

The rate at which technology is changing get just a cd. In a few years you will be able to get 40" digital photoframes for your wall and you can already get small ones for your work tops. Lets face it as well, once you look through your stunning photo album 4 or 5 times it is just going to sit in the cupboard for the next 20 years. :)

    Hello All

As a photographer that shoots weddings (not a specialist wedding photographer) there are a couple of points I'd like to make.

Photographers offer albums for a number of reasons (apart from the obvious !). No disrespect to anyone, but you wont find a professional photographer going to Photobox or similar as the quality of reproduction, the colour renditions and final product are generally very poor, and not comparable to a professional album company. Of course there is a price premium to pay for using a specialist company.

Whether it's worth it to you is a very personal decision, but my view - and biased it may be - is why pay for quality photography to produce beautiful images and then put those images into a poor album, or worse still, no album at all.

Having said all that, we do offer CD only weddings because it's what the market demands, but 80% of our weddings are album AND images on a CD.

As a final note, it's very unlikely that you'll be granted copyright of the images. Packages often include the right to print and use for personal use, but that's not the same as copyright. Again, having said that, right to print and personal use is pretty much all you should every need.

Probably my best advice as a dad whose son is about to get married.. get a price for CD only, get a price for CD and album, have a look at the quality of the album and then decide if it's worth it for you.

Hi Everyone. Having read this post with interest i thought i would give a reply from the other side. I am a professional wedding photographer and like to think we offer packages to meet a range of budgets which includes a disk only option.

As someone has already pointed out above color matching from monitor to print can also be an issue. We have our monitors calibrated so we know what we see is what will print and some amazing album desing software.

All that aside we also spend hours of time on the design of albums. Each album we make is 100% custom made based on the customers image selection and no templates are used. This design process is very time consuming so that is always going to be a factor in pricing.

To summarise my post i belive most photographers these days offer some great value disk only packages meaning for those who wish to limit the budget or like the idea of making albums themselves these packages are perfect however do look at the albums on offer from your photographer as you may decide the high quality and time and effort put into producing these albums is worth that little more.

Can i start with trying to clear up the misconception that to print images you need "copyright" this is not true and i would be very worried about booking a photographer who is giving away or selling "copyright" as this usually shows a level of inexperience or a much higher cost for package. What you are looking for with your Disk package is a usage license which gives you written permission from the copyright owner to print the images, use them on the web and covers most personal use. Most photographers give this rather than copyright as it will set limitations such as commercial use of the images or resale to things such as magazines without permission. Most Disk packages will include a usage license that includes everything you may need for personal use such as prints, albums and web use.

As i said we do offer a disk only option which is great for smaller budget weddings however this is my least popular choice and out of around 40 weddings i shot last year only 3 took this option. The main reason for this is that the albums we provide are simply miles ahead what you will get from consumer stores. Our album manufactures only work with trade customers and the standards are above and beyound anythign i have ever seen on the high street/ online. Everything from the print quality to the hand bound book covers really makes them stand out. Now of course this then reflects in the price and i am not saying for a second you can not get some great photobooks or albums in the consumer market only that you will often get a much higher standard when buying an album package from the photographer. Now i am sure some photographers are selling these cheaper book options and marking them up to be high end albums however i would like to think most quality professionals want to showcase there work in a quality product.
