Just remind me NEVER to employ you - and before I get flamed - I am sure there will be people on here who - if an employer did this (i.e. just sod off with no explanation) to an employee, would be all over the employers backs. I also wouldn't expect a very good reference

I was offered a permanent job on my doorstep for more money per hour, the old job was 45 miles round trip per day and still temporary after 18 months, what would you of done?

Easy, work my one weeks notice - or, and here is a shocker, asked him if I could leave early, if not it's one week - I am sure you would be on here if it were the other way round. TBH I'm not surprised he is 'delaying' things a bit (would be tempted to do the same if I was in his position). As you stated in your OP, there wasn't a 'problem' at work, things were just a little frosty. Have you thought that things might be a little frosty because your employer might be having problems (cashflow, orders etc) and your just not turning up for work might have caused him a few more. Think about it from his point of view. All of a sudden you just decide not to turn up to work and then (when still not in work) decide you don't want to work there.

Oh, sorry, that means thinking of others doesn't it (sarcastic head off)
