What are my rights with repaying debts?

I did think about setting up a DMP with a charity but was just about managing but since my hours were dropped at work last week it's going to be very difficult with repayments and wanted to tackle it myself.

In total I owe around 3ishK (rough figure) to different companies and wondered if I were to call them and give them my disposable income they would let me repay at a lower rate? What is your experience in this? A Couple of the companies are Argos, Capital One and HFC.

All you can do is try.
If they dont accept you could then go for a DMP with one of the debt charity's.

They may, they may not. You have no right to demand that they accept your offer, but many do, especially if you can provide evidence that it's a genuine offer.

Failing that, the muscle of a DMP such as CCCS or payplan may well help you.

Hi, we set up our own dmp by setting out all outgoings within the guideline and our income, anything over we offered to our creditors. The only one not really helping is Argos. They reduced the payment but also the interest in line with the payment so we are paying £20 pm but interest is about £14 pm. They wont lower it any further. I found it no problens doing itourselves but make sure you do everything in writing so you have a record of it all. Good lucl
