I think you'll have to keep it. I'm pretty sure you can't return refrigerated items, hopefully someone can confirm this for you.
Handle every stressful situation like a dog.
If you can't eat it or play with it ....... just pee on it and walk away.

Rather than being the bad guy, can't you explain to the kids about how it may be a bit awkward for their mother and that you will take them out for a special treat to make up for not going?
I personally would say that the school only allow 2 adults from each family to attend and how their mum and dad should be the ones to go but also how much you want to go and will be very sad to miss it.
Either that or go anyway but stay far away from their mum. Get your OH to explain how much you want to be there and that you'll just sit at the back and watch but that you will be there. She may realise how much you care for the boys. Write her a letter or email explaining this.

My sons school had a policy of only 2 adults per family for anything but that was only because there was almost 1000 kids in the school

Awh I really feel for you :grouphug: - You know you love them and they will too - they will grow up knowing you love them and just for the time being try and take it on the chin ! Its a tough situation I can only imagine. The most important thing in life is happy children ! Best wishes !

Thanks all. The boys live with their mum and are aware how difficult she can be and have tough relationships with her. I do not want to come between them and whenever possible stand up for her OH had to fight through the court to even see them.

They can have 2 guests each. The boys don't know I'm not coming yet. I'm sure they'll be fine and I'll get a second by second report from ds2! We are useful when there's early morning drop offs or inconvenient appointments

As a newbie I hope it's ok for me to have an off topic moan!!!

My oh has 2 sons who stay every other weekend and we see 3 nights during the week. Additionally we take them to any appointments (lots because both have regular hospital appointments). It's prize giving at school in 2 weeks and they both asked me to go. Oh given a letter from their mum yesterday saying I'm not allowed to go. I've never met her because she doesn't feel ready. OH and she divorced 7 years ago. I'm gutted. I've been helping ds2 with practising his guitar for the event. I was looking forward to it. We've now got to explain why I can't go without saying the real reason so it looks like I'm the bad guy as usual. So annoyed.
I'm a grown up so I'll get over it. Just it's not fair.

    Rant over - thanks

I wouldn't be the bad guy I would tell them the truth!

Afternoon, been at sons football all morning now chilled through! Off home to bath kids and warm up!
  • Off to t's for more reloaded then asda for cheese.

In need of more cereal glitches down to last box of my fav. Still got plenty for everyone else tho.

That would make me as bad as her. They'll soon learn how manipulative she is. I'll wish them well and wait for the blow by blow account.

In my local a young lad returned frozen food and fresh chicken, he had brought earlier in the day, he claimed the shop had taken him over his overdraft limit and would get charged, so wanted a refund to he didn't incur charges. I would have loved to put my two pennies worth in.
