Accepted New Job, Feel Scared Now!!!

Hi accepted a new job yesterday and gave my two week resignation today with felt awkward and i didn't enjoy and my boss let me finish half a day early (i think so he could ring HR etc while i was out of the way).

Anyway the more i think about the more i'm scared of leaving my old place, i feel scared now taking a new job after being so comfortable in my old job for so long.
New job is better paid and more scope for progression and i feel like i need to take a leap and go for it.

Maybe i'm being silly but has anyone felt like this as the last time i left my old job i felt happy and excited but now i'm feeling nervous and uneasy

  • Congratulations on the new job!

I think it's perfectly normal to feel that way - you're leaving something that you know and is comfortable and easy for something that is unknown (new job, new work colleagues, new routine, etc etc). Just so long as you still have the feelings of excited and happy as well as nervous unease!

  • Leaving an old job where you know everyone and everything is hard and going to a new one is daunting, I always look at it as you wouldn't have been looking if you weren't totally happy. you will learn new processes and make new friends when you start your new place and if you weren't as good as you are you wouldn't have been offered the job - don't be hard on yourself. Everyone has to move on at some point and a change of scenery may do you some good. If the job doesn't work out then find another one, it's not the end if the world.

If you didn't feel right in the interview or even had the right feeling you wouldn't have accepted the job. If you didn't like the job on paper you wouldn't have gone for it in the first place.

In my last change of role (2 months ago), during the interview process I really wanted the role, the role was perfect for me and like you it had everything I wanted. I was that nervous that I talked myself into thinking that I wouldn't get it and someone else etc and when I was finally offered the job - a week and a half later I was elastic but at the same time was thinking oh my god can I do the role, am I wearing a hat too big for my head etc. I sat there thinking about should I or shouldn't I or what if something else better came up. It got to the point where I thought life is too short for that, there must have been something I said right or done right in the interview, otherwise I wouldn't have been offered it. This job felt right, much more than the other interviews I attended and that should count for something.

Anyway enough about me, don't worry, I think you are nervous about the uncertainly of the new role and it doesn't sound like your workplace has taken too kindly on you resigning. You will be fine, enjoy the last two weeks with your colleagues and look forward to new challenges!!

If I don't hear from you good luck with everything.

Thats totally normal don't worry! I always get like that starting a new job. The first couple of days even weeks will be daunting but once you settle in, learn the role and meet the staff you'll be fine. Congratulations & goodluck!
