a friend of mine who's been getting job seekers allowance for a quite a while recently found a job- but obviously won't be getting paid for a month
but unfortunately, his jobseekers allowance has stopped- how is he supposed to support himself while he waits for his first paycheck????
surely- they should continue to pay him his jobseekers until he gets paid right?
p.s. the jobseekers people told him that he has to re-claim but this will take around 4 weeks so this is no use to him whatsoever as by then he'll get paid!

Not everyone is paid monthly.
Doesn't he have some savings or he can live on overdraft/credit ??

Ask his new employer for an advance
Arrange an overdraft0 -
How does anyone manage for a month until payday? Budget!Gone ... or have I?0

Agreed - I had to wait 6 weeks until I got paid last month as I was going from a contract position to a permie one. Had to go into savings a little and tread carefully, but ok now!0

It is quite normal for an employer to be asked for an advance payment (not an advance) in the first month of employment. What I would normally be prepared to do is to pay an employee for the first two weeks' work after those 2 weeks have been completed, then pay at the end of the month. From then onwards I would normally expect people to have sorted themselves out....Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0

The jobcentre can't pay him for that period because he is no longer unemployed. There are some people who would continue to get help - single parents for example but they are on Income Support and not JSa.0

So for these 4 weeks until he gets paid is he working? If so then no the jobcentre wont pay him as he is employed!Weight Loss - 102lb0

The JSA rules only allow JSA to be paid up to the day before work commences.
In some circumstances, a run on and a Jobgrant are payable, however there has to be an unbroken claim of at least 6 months and the job must be expected to last at least 5 weeks.
If there is no grant or other run on payable, theoretically a crisis loan can be requested from the Social Fund, however there is no guarantee this will be paid0
