Fonesure / Pier Insurance owe ME!

So... I suddenly realise that the wondrous Fonesure have been taking £5.99 from me every month for the last 4 years. This was taken out by Orange who I was with whilst at University.
Now I contacted them and asked them why they continued taking it since I phone and cancelled - they sent a letter indicating no monies would be returned to me as "cancellation was required in writing"...
Now they recognise that the contract was taken out by "GM Group" and not me.. so since I was not given a contract by Orange / GM Group which would indicate cancellation was required by writing should I not have been told this when I called..
Or when I left Orange years ago should this not have been cancelled by them?
I did phone but was not told and so due to life in general did not check until now...
So am down by £287. Who is at fault....Orange or Pier Insurance?..I DID try to cancel but they clearly continued to take money..should cancellation have been given by Orange and should I not have been told this was required when I left Orange...??
Thanks for any advice... am due to send them a reply on Monday by post - worth recorded delivery??

My gut feeling is that it is your responsibility to ensure this sort of thing is cancelled. Do they have a record of your phone call cancelling the contract?
I think the insurance agreement is between you and fonesure with Orange only being an intermediary. You could try calling Orange and seeing what they say.
But to be honest, I wouldn't hold your breath. Make sure you check your bank statements regularly in future!....Practically Perfect in Every Way......:grinheart0 -
