MBNA selling the debt on - advice?

Hi folks,

Well the first of the creditors to sell a debt on is the MBNA.
Got a letter today saying that they've decided to sell the debt to a company called ' Aktiv Kapital Portfolio AS Zug Branch'
Anyone had dealings with this company? What can we expect?
I'll be ringing CCCS to let them know about this.

  • Hi
MBNA shed loads of us a while ago, I remember being one of many on the DMP thread, one after the other, being sold on. For me, my payments continued to be exactly the same and I've had nothing from the new collectors other than the initial letter confirming everything would continue the same. Mine went to Moorgate but there were various debt collectors involved.

Have you tried using the search engine in here and looking for Aktiv Kapital?

ETA: There are quite a lot of threads mentioning them, this one you might be interested in as it's also an MBNA debt: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3919161

Acktiv Kapital are a D(ebt) C(ollection) A(gency) or DCA BR.

You may well find that now the debt has been sold there will be no further interest/account charges added and this may mean it wont take you the predicted 48 yrs to be DF.

Scan the letter in and forward it to CCCS via email (if you can) to ensure the details are upto date.

(My Cahoot debt got transferred to Robinson Way DCA in Nov 2005 - and I have NOT been charged any interest at all).

    Hope this helps BR
  • My MBNA debt was sold to Aktiv Kapital about 6 months ago and I've not heard a peep from them apart from initial letter confirming transfer. No further interest has been added and balance is decreasing nicely.

Good. Any attempts to claim your "agreement to pay is now at an end" in order to apply pressure to increase repayments will be rebuffed by:
    1. A cancellation of any DD that exists to be replaced by a SO.
    2. A letter stating that your circumstances are unchanged since you set the agreement up with the OC and you can still only afford £XX.XX (the same payment).

MBNA sold our cc debt to Aktiv Kapital a few months ago. No problems so far. We had just one letter confirming the transfer of the debt to them. When we phoned Payplan to let them know they had already been informed and payments continued as before.....still no interest or charges.

  • Thanks folks.
I rang CCCS about the letter from MBNA and they said not to worry and to ring them back, or email them, with the new account number/details from Aktiv Kapital when we get it

  • MBNA shed my debt last month too...cant remember who they sold it to, but I do know it's not Activ Kapital and they've sold it to a DCA I've never heard of. I have to say I was a bit surprised as I've been on my dmp since 2008 and MBNA have always been brilliant and kept interest frozen the whole time and never hassled me. I'm only 2 months away from clearing my debt with them too so I'm a bit surprised they've sold it on now. They must be wanting to be rid of bad debt.

CCCS were aware of the change when I called them as they had received a letter too informing them of the change so I didn't have to do anything.
Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free :)
    Mortgage free since 2014 :)
  • Mine went to Moorcroft a few months ago - absolutely no issues at all.
