Nobel peace prize

Well I can barely contain a little chuckle as I read this, I had to check the date to make sure it wasn't an April fool's but the European Union has been awarded the Nobel Prize for uniting Europe.

This seems truly astonishing given events on the continent. Democracy is breaking down in Greece, Catalonians are demanding independence with more ferve and vigour than ever before, anti-German sentiment is stronger than it has ever been in Southern Europe and tragically, unemployment rates are the highest they have been in living memory in the periphery.

Barroso must be wetting his pants. I can't wait to hear Nigel Farage's riposte.

I am sure the Greek protesters with blood streaming down their faces are in total agreement with the award

Peace on our terms is the EU mantra.

Conditions in the periphery today are quite similar to those in Germany after WW1.

The word on the streets is that the Norwegians did this in order to prove, against all expectations, that they do in fact have a sense of humour.
No-one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions. He had money as well.

If the good Dr North is right, it was a stitch-up of the Norwegian public, too.
