Mandatory Uniform

I work for a large company and until now we have been able to wear our own clothes as long as they conform to requirements. Now they have decided that we are to wear uniform. Obviously this has had a mixed reaction- some like the idea, others dont.
Today during one of the 'moaning sessions' during a break someone said that 'If a company make you wear a uniform then they have to either give you an allowance towards dry cleaning or washing'. For the life of me I cant see why this would be the case but this person was adamant she was right.
Is there any truth in what she says?
