I have two bags of green lentils but not sure why I bought them.
Does anyone have any nice recipes for using them up.
Can they be used in curried dishes successfully?
Thanks

I hope that my child, looking back on today
Will remember a mother who had time to play;
Because children grow up while you're not looking,
There are years ahead for cleaning and cooking.
So, quiet now cobwebs, dust go to sleep.
I'm nursing my baby, and babies don't keep.

Hi jay-jay,
I use them in currys, casseroles, soups. This thread should help:
Lentilles vertes and puy (green) lentils
I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the ideas together.

Vegetarian shepherds pie / shepherdless pie
They make a nice bed for things like sausages - boil in some stock maybe add some green beans, shove on a plate put sausages or chops or chicken breast on topI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
I’ve used the green lentils for a Shepherdless Pie (Delia's recipe) but I have to say the taste was good but the colour was very off-putting a greyish/green – not a good look.
I still have some left and would only use them in something like a curry or soup where other ingredients provide a more dominant colour.Jan - June Grocery spends = £531.61

Hi I have to agree with Need2bthrifty have used them in Lentil Shepard's pie (and its on meal planner for tomorrow) but yes they do go an off putting colour.
The one really good recipe I have that even my 2 sisters liked (who both when told before that we were having this asked if we could have something else as they didn't like lentils) is...
LINCOLNSHIRE SAUSAGES AND LENTIL SIMMER:
Cubed pancetta or rashers of bacon, chopped
400g Lincolnshire pork sausages
2 onions
1 large carrot
4 garlic cloves
300g lentils
850ml chicken stock
1 tin of tomatoes
fresh parsley(optional)
3 rosemary sprigs(optional)
Cook sausages and bacon for 10 mins, scoop out sausages and add onions carrot and garlic until onions soften. Return sausages to pan and add rosemary, lentils, stock, tomatoes, season. Bring to the boil then cover and simmer for 45 mins, stirring occasionally until lentils are soft.
I've put optional next to herbs as I rarely use them, although this is how its written in the book I don't actually put these exact amounts in, especially the lentils as I find that is too many. Its trial and error I find, as with most recipes. Meant to say this serves 6 ppl13 projects in 2013 0/130 -
Any suggestions for red lentils? I'm going to make a dahl, but stuck for what else.0

Hi,
I use green lentils for quiche, a pastryless one, the recipe is in the recipes list.
The other thing I do is boil up lentils on their own and drain them, and separately fry off an onion and carrot. I then throw a mixture of these into my salad I take to work.nov grocery challenge, £.227.69/300, 9/25 nsd: , 7 Cmo, 10 egm.

I use green lentils to just bulk out beef mince dishes, hardly know they are there and so healthy.
Red lentils. I made a gorgeous spiced red lentil and carrot soup the other day.Opinion on everything, knowledge of nothing.0 -
A Spanish dish for green lentils is
green lentils half a packet.
chopped up bacon (or lardons).
chorizo sliced. (Aldi do really nice chorizo ring).
two onions peeled and cut into quarter.
4 garlic cloves peeled but left whole.
Just place all in a pan and cover with water and cook until lentils are soft. Add salt to taste after its cooked.
Simple food but one of my Mama's best dishes for comfort food.0
