£60 for a £300+ Muller knife set (deal voucher thingy)

Had this one through today in my emails:
Very cool Knife set
So if you need a really expensive professional knife set that's not so expensive, for a friend that loves cooking (or Halo I suppose) it's not a bad deal.
Bit expensive for me
but all the same, if you need a mega knife set, it looks pretty. The deal is £55 but on the right it says you have to pay £5 delivery so £60.

Avoidamundo imo! These will almost certainly be crap knives. You get a lot of these cheap cases sets down any spiv market for under a tenner.
Where quality knives are concerned, there are rarely (never) such huge reductions. For the price in question, an investment in one good chefs knife (wusthof/henckels/global/santoku et all) would give you a far better tool than all these other knives put together.
For a reasonable knife "set" in this price range, try tkmax for a sabatier or similar set.0 -
I have bought loads of knives at knock down prices over the decades, including formerly reputable names such as Sabatier (who presumably sold-out some 20 years ago, as they're rubbish now). In the last 10 years I have bought 1 Global GS chopper and a Henckels santoku and, as long as you look after them, you'll not likely need another for a loooong time.
Go for a known reputable name and be prepared to pay for what you get.0 -

Yeah, the situation with Sabatier is a strange one....Sabatier not being any one brand, but a mark that existed before intellectual property laws allowed it's protection. There are still great Sabatiers out there....and indeed, I have seen some good value small sets @ circa £60 in tkmaxx over the years. Ideally, decent Sabatiers will specify manufacture in Thiers somewhere on the blade.

We were given a set of Muller Kochtophaus for Christmas.
A few things quickly - it’s a very cheap set of knives, even the handles excess melted plastic was not cleaned up from the steal on some of the knives. There are small metal buttons on the handles – a couple has already fallen out, they rust after dishwashing. The forks have a very awkward bend and are uncomfortable to pick up the food. The steak knives teeth are too big, you have to put an effort into cutting your meat and when you manage you rather tear it as opposed to cutting. The kitchen knives blades are too thick and the handles have such a bend that you actually have you knuckles getting in the way trying to cut anything. The case the set came in was an even more awful quality than the knives.
Also it seems they are always on sale or discounted from something around of EUR250 – 300 to EUR40 – 60. Very much like some of those London Oxford Street shops that claim to be “pure” something and have a “Closing down” or “Final Reduction” signs which has in there windows for years.
Also looking for the reviews on those knives, I came across this link urbanhippy.ca/fake/german/knives, which I found quite useful.0
