WHSmith reduced printer paper

WHSmith currently has packets (a ream of 500 A4 sheets, 80gm) of coloured printer paper reduced from £7 to £3.50.
They also had similar packets of HP branded white printer paper reduced by half price from £6 to £3 (I think).
Hope someone finds this information useful.
Also, perhaps someone could shed some light on the following.
I went in there and purchased a packet of this paper which had a half price sticker on it showing the original and reduced price. The assistant scanned the item and charged me £3.50. However, I think the item scanned at full price (£7) but the assistant amended this to the reduced price - sorry, wasn't paying full attention so can't remember.
Anyway, a couple of hours later, I decided I needed another packet and went back. I grabbed an identical packet of paper and took it to the same till. The assistant (different to the previous one) scanned the item which came up at £2. She was aware the sticker said reduced from £7 to £3.50 but said it scanned at £2 and charged me this amount.
I then grabbed another packet of paper (different colour) from the shelf and asked her to scan it which subsequently came up at £3.50.
Now the question is, do I go back and mention this to them to try and get back my £1.50 extra I paid for the first packet of paper.
Also, what on earth is going on with WHSmiths pricing.
I could do with some more of this paper (am printing some leaflets) at the £2 price but don't really want to go in there and ask them to scan all of their stock to see which ones scan at that price.
Anyone have any thoughts on this.

Last time I was in (last Wed) they had a deal on some packs of paper, buy one get one half price.
They also had some vouchers in a pile on the cash desk, which gave you £5 off when you spent £12 on stationery, valid until 15th April.
Don't know if they have anything to do with it, but worth checking out if you need more paper.
Or try Wilkinsons, I got some laser paper for £1.99 per ream0
