citizenkitten wrote: »Hi All
after reading other peoples posts on different threads, I have decided to turn this into a thread of supporting each other who are very near their DFD or paid off nearly all of their debts and are struggling to get to the final hurdle.
we have all probably tried all the different challenges on here to get us to our targets and still do some, but sometimes it just is not enough.
Some of us get even more motivated when we are near the end, so please share your enthusiasm!:j
for those who have struggled with the same issue but managed to kick it in to touch, also share with us your wisdom! :j
LET US HELP EACH OTHER MAKE OUR DFD/TARGETS :T
MY TARGET : DFD (MINUS CAR) JAN 2013, which means I have to get my butt into gear and up my £374.98 repayments to 564.35, which means finding 189.37 worth of motivation.
So my story:
I dont know about the rest of you, but personally after managing to pay off 17k in 3 years and with the finishing line very close. I am now really really really really finding motivation hard to come by, months of scrimping and saving have gotten to me and every month I pay less and less off. I am not paying any interest either on any of my debts which is not helping me be disciplined.
Also i have the classic reward myself relationship with money, so if i feel i have done well with money I tend to reward myself...*looks at shoe collection* the better I have done or the how punishing it has been, the more expensive i believe my reward should be.... which really works against what i am trying to achieve! :rotfl:I try not to make my rewards monetary but not much else works to satisfy me, believe me I have tried....
I know some people are really excited by the finishing line so please share so I can make Jan 2013 my debt 1 dfd. ( i am not counting my car because I paid with that with my savings) but i do plan to pay that off too.
Fantastic idea for a thread citizenkitten :T
We started off with a massive amount of debt in the shape of £81,306. It makes me wince just thinking about it
We have managed to pay off £12,750 in 8 months but still have a long way to go and our predicted DFD is January 2016, though we hope to get this into 2015 and have a debt free Christmas that year :j
Our debt originated from a flood in our house which we thought the insurance would cover. Unfortunately the repair work uncovered a multitude of critical problems and the work ended up costing us £37,000 on top of the insurance. This soon turned into the mountain of debt which brought us here
While we are nowhere near the end, we all need motivation sometimes so I will definitely be following this thread. Good luck to everyone on their debt free journeys and well done to those who are close to the endLBM 10/1/12 ~ DFW Start 6/2/12: £82,344 ~ Now Zero:staradmin:starmod::staradmin Debt free 17th April 2015 :staradmin:starmod::staradmin

2 (and a bit ) instalments left, debt figure in my sig says £592, but I do owe approx another £165 to 3 creditors, which will clear on my DFD.
And a bal to HBOS of approx £1500 which arose after they started to charge interest, after they originally froze it.
So I will be DF on 2nd December 2012 and I will deal with HBOS after that date.
When I become DF, I would have cleared £22,000 in 7 years.0 -
ladybird- thank you very much, hopefully when you get nr the end you wont have the same issues i am having, keep us updated!

having researched motivation.... errr yeah.. i am determined to kick this in to touch!
read a lot of absolute codswallop... drew on myself... tried to find random body parts i never knew existed.....
i am going with VISUALISATION of my goal, what does it actually mean to be DF???
SO....
WHEN I AM DEBT FREE I AM GOING TO:
1) DECORATE MY BEDROOM (finally after years of boarding school magnolia)
2) DESIGN MYSELF MY WARDOBE (having no children, pets and an extremely boring job, my shoes are my babies) ((plus i dont acutally own a wardobe my clothes etc have been on hanging rails bought from woolworths 6 years ago....lol))
these are going to celebrate my joys in life, sleep, shoes and bright colours.
HOW TO VISUALISE?
- i am going to do a "mood board" - (what interior decorators do to visualise colour and scheme for rooms)
- i am then going to print it and stick it to my wallet so every time i spend i see what i am working for
- stick it on my bedroom wall so when i wake i see it immediately and start my day seeing my motivation
- tell everyone about it so people ask me how progress is getting along etc.
PLEASE POST YOUR VISUALS, MOTIVATION, ETC :T:j:T:j:T:jIF YOU THINK YOU ARE SO CLEVER, THEN WHY ARE'NT YOU RICH?
