washing machine leaving brown marks

I think this may have been discussed before but I'm darned if I can find the solution on here :p

My washing machine has started to leave brown lines on my whites, darks and mixed appear fine, once the marks are there they are difficult to remove.

Thoughts please or a linkie to the solution ;)

I have this occasionally when the outflow pipes and filter get clogged. It seems to cause a backflow of dirty water. Suggest a thorough cleaning of filters and an empty boil wash with some vinegar a couple of times. Worked for me

Just a thought, do you have a wisteria? The sap from this turns brown in the wash and is impossible to get out. Usually only noticeable on whites too. Otherwise scrub the machine as above!

    Hi.
It may also be worth wiping round the inside of the washing machine door round the edge of the rubber.I found a small amount of mould had developed where it was not obvious and was coming off on clothes when I came to empty the machine.

Wow missrlr, I think Wisteria is the answer to my problem. I couldn't understand why I intermittently got 1 shirt with brown marks out of a full wash. Husband was trimming Wisteria at the weekend and his shirt had loads of brown marks when I took it out of the machine.
