Diet Required - Lose 1 Stone in 1 Month

Good evening Ladies n Gents,

I have an issue - I am around a stone over weight. In the last year I have grown a little bit of a belly through too many take aways and now I have a wedding to prepare for in around 4 weeks time which I would like to get rid of this stomach for.

Any one could please recommend a diet plan that works?
I am happy to exercise 3-4 times a week and change my eating habits.

I have heard of liquid diets on certain days and even fasting.

What is the best and most efficient way?

Many Thanks in advance

  • That's too much to lose safely in four weeks, especially with large amounts of exercise and no committment to eating healthily - liquid diets and suchlike aren't changing habits in a healthy, sustainable manner.

And if this is for spamming the boards eith fad diet info, you can bog off.

If you have just a stone to lose, it would be virtually impossible to lose so much in a short space of time. People with a huge amount of weight to lose will sometimes lose up to a stone in the first month, but not those with just a small amount to lose.
It is good to go and exercise 3-4 times a week anyway, and just cut down and the amount of food you eat. Stop alcohol and takeaways and just eat sensibly and you will lose weight. Forget about faddy diets, and any which cost money apart from your exercise sessions.
I could spend £s going to a diet club, but what I have started to do instead is to use the money that I would spend on cr#p and go to a few exercise classes per week. Because I am eating less, and eating sensibly, I can afford to and have lost over half a stone in a couple of weeks, but that is because I have got at least 3 stone to lose.

A meal replacement diet such as exante aims to lose 1 stone per month. Not sure if you are male or female but a male on a low cal diet with exercise should also achieve that. M and s do feel full longer ready meals - male friend of mine dieted very successfully using those (is a big exerciser though).

    Thank you for your responses.

I will cut out take away and restaurant food completely unless its grills or salads in smaller portions.

    Yesterday I tried a semi liquid diet/fast.
Breakfast all I had was water, lunch I ate normal and dinner at 7:30pm I had only soup with 2 bread slices, which kept me hungry until around 11pm where I had to have a 60kal cereal bar and tea.

Clearly I don't know what I am doing and need all your advise.
I can do cardio 3 times a week and change my diet completely to try and achieve my goal.

I was thinking the Dukan diet online but before taking the plunge I need all your suggestions please.

Today I have had some porridge with some strong green tea. In an hour I will hit the gym and work on the bike (10-15mins high intensity interval training), Rowing (10mins) and Treadmil (Interval training for 10mins).

Any further suggestions would be really appreciated!

    Go to the doctor.

Preferably before you make yourself ill.

  • If you need something in writing, try Weight Watchers or Slimming World.

The exercise program I just did (Insanity) was great, but I'm more exercise than diet motivated.

Or, as Jojo said, go to your docs and they can help you with a plan.

I'm doing slimming world and lost 14 1/2lbs in the first 4 weeks but then I have 4 stone to lose in total. Perhaps slimming world and exercise and you might get near that stone in a month.
Slimming World - 3 stone 8 1/2lbs in 7 months and now at target :j

Cut off an arm or part of a leg?
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

As others have said losing a stone in a month is unrealistic and could result in loss of muscle as well as fat. My top tips:

    * Join MyFitnessPal - a fantastic free website where you can log your calories and make friends/log on forums for advice. Lots of people on there have tried every other diet method before coming to the conclusion that keeping to sensible calories and getting more exercise is the way to go (me included!) https://www.myfitnesspal.com/

    * Calculate your BMR and eat to that amount of calories every day (calculate it here http://www.fitnessfrog.com/calculators/bmr-calculator.html - my advice is to set yourself as doing no exercise to get a true indication of calories you need)

    * Eat plenty of fresh vegetables and lean protein rather than the bread and cereal bars you have mentioned. Low in calories, filling and packed with nutrients. Nothing is quicker than a tin of tuna on top of a big salad or baked sweet potato for lunch or dinner. Again, use the MyFitnessPal calorie counter and get yourself a set of electronic kitchen scales - it's amazing when you see where calories are hidden. You can still have the 'nice' stuff, but just measure it out. Bread is a great example - up to 140 calories a slice (for the Warbutons seed bread I love)! So now I just have one, rather than two, for example with a scrambled egg for breakfast or lunch. Meanwhile, an entire cucumber has less than 50 calories, so I just crumble some feta over with a good helping of oregano for a Greek salad (again, weigh the feta as it's calorie laden but you only need a little as the flavour is strong).

    * Do exercises that you enjoy with quick toning-up results - for me this is running, hiking and DVDs by Jillian Michaels.

    * For running, if you are new to it try the NHS C25K plan - http://www.nhs.uk/LiveWell/c25k/Pages/couch-to-5k.aspx - half an hour three times a week has given me amazing results in just a couple of months - toned legs, inch loss etc.

    * Try out the Jillian DVDs on YouTube - try 30 Day Shred for a 25 minute circuit training workout that really gets results (use tins of beans if you don't have weights to start with. There are lots of success stories on MyFitnessPal with photos - this really does work! I lost two inches from my waist in two weeks before going on my last holiday by doing this five times a week.

And remember to measure yourself as well as weighing yourself. I've only lost a stone since joining MyFitnessPal but the loss of inches and change in body shape has been incredible. I'd much rather look slimmer than just see a change on the scales! I could go on forever on this topic, but won't! But please do have a look at MyFitnessPal - it has changed the lives of many of us and - in true MSE fashion - doesn't cost a penny to join.

    Good luck
