Need job advice

I've posted this on the discussion board but would appreciate some DFW views as well!
Last year I left a job, where I had the boss from hell, and went to one - after I think a good word was said on my behalf !- where my boss is lovely and everyone is like family.
My dilemma is that I've seen advertised my exact same job but with another organisation - but with a £7K increase in salary - which is not something to be sniffed at!
Would you apply for it - unfortuantely due to the way that the organisation is financed I couldn't argue the case for such a pay rise where I am .

Not sure I can advise you really but felt the need to sympathise! I was unfairly dismissed from the job from hell and now have a 'boring' but safe job on lower pay but with very little stress (except that of boredom). I waver every day between stability and stressfree and wanting to further my career, every day I make a different decision.
Someone once told me if you were undecided about something flip a coin. So make tails you leave and heads you stay in your job. If it comes down tails and your initial reaction is one of disappointment then your heart is telling you to stay in your present job. Not sure how much debt you have from your sig and how much of a difference a £7k pay rise will make to your situation.
You could of course always apply for the job and if you do get it, you could always turn it down if you felt it wasn't right.Quality is doing something right when no one is looking - Henry Ford

I agree with the above. You should at least apply, then you are keeping your options open. I think you will kick yourself if you don't.0

I'd apply too. You've got nothing to lose - the worst-case scenario is that you don't get the job and you stay in the one you're in, nice boss and all. Good luck!0

Apply and go and see what the new crowd are like.
They may be as lovely as the crowd you're currently working with.
They may be so horrible that £50K wouldn't be enough to entice you.
You won't know unless you see what the chances are.0 -
My philospohy is "ask for the world and you might get a garden, ask for nothing and thats precisely what you'll get". So go for the job what have you got to lose?Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0

and I thought I would give you all an update.
I had a chat with my boss today and when I told him about the job I think he was genuinely shocked but told me that I had to think of number one and that he would happily give me a reference.
However hubby is very much against it - not so much the potential salary increase (!!!!) - but for the reason the fact that one of his mates works high up in the organisation and that the 'good word' come from him.
Given I like being married to hubby, there is no squaring this circle so it looks like I won't be applying after all.
Whilst I am trying not to think of the £7K too much (!!!!) I can see Tustastic's point of view......I've had a few jobs in the last 2-3 years or so and have to leave them for one reason or another so perhaps a more stable employment history will pay dividends in the future.2014 Target;

Was your current boss shocked because it was a bolt out of the blue or because the salary was so high - did you tell him the salary?
I wouldn't give away to the boss that you have discounted applying for the job, but ask him if he can look toward providing you with an increase to help your living costs? He doesn't have to meet the £7k increase, but anything would, I am sure, be welcome.
Its worth a try...Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!
