Having worked for 36 years for the same company's I took voluntary redundancy (and my pension early at age 52)2 years ago in 2010.Since I left the bank I worked for has been taken over and things seem to have stabilised.Apart from the first few months after I left I have constantly wished I was back. I am working now and have 3 part time jobs which takes up 3.5 days. I feel as though I need to work full time again more to get back into a role with more responsibility as I feel that at 54 I am too young to be winding down. I have mentioned to a couple of friends who think I am mad? Am I? What do you think? Any useful comments would be appreciated. Thanks

You have already answered your question, you want to go back full-time, you miss the responsibility and you feel you are too young to retire. There's no harm in trying, if it doesn't work out re-retire.0

Why not give it a try, you can always decide whether it is actually something you want to continue with or if its too much.0

Personally, I think you're mad

However, don't live your life according to what other people think. I'm perfectly happy to be 'winding down' before I'm 50, and a full time job is my idea of hell. Don't get me wrong - I enjoy working, it's having a job I hate. For me a frugal life funded by part-time self employment and enriched by lots of free time and the chance to decide day to day whether I work or not is ideal. I think in your heart you know that's not for you. If you really miss the office politics, stress, early mornings, commuting, etc etc then go for it
