Mortgage and Critical Illness Cover

Hi all

I know there's lots going on about ppi etc etc and wondered if the 2 above types would be covered under being claimed back.

I took a mortgage out with a mortgage Brookes when forced me down the route of having both the above covers as there fee fir sorting out the mortgage. Being young and not knowing better I took them out.

I continued to pay these for the next 5 years (ended five years ish ago) and even when I moved house I was told I couldn't cancel these till 6 moths later without incurring massive fees to cancel it.

The covers were with legal and general and I nowhere not banks but didn't know if they come under the same thing and if I should be evened bothering about it?

Any advice anyone can give would be of great help and if you need any more information then please fell free to ask.

Thanks in advance

Drew

Neither are PPI. So, in that respect no.

A very common model and quite acceptable and allowed.

Again, quite normal. If you cancel during the clawback period and you agreed for the commission to offset the fee then you would expect to be have to pay the difference caused by the clawback.

You havent indicated any wrong doing. Best not to use tied agents as you did as that is not cost effective. Use a local IFA next time as its cheaper. However, that isnt something you can complain about.

  • Hi

I have recently complained about missolD ppi on my mortgage with the halifax and was sent a cheque in the post. When I recieved a breakdown of what I would be refunded, I noticed that I apparently also had a critical illness cover that i was unaware of. I dont recall having this policy. Can I complain about this being missold to me. I have always had one payment leave my account. What can i do?

sally, I will answer this here but I did get your other message as well....

The CI policy is medically underwritten at point of sale. It would have required answering about a dozen medical questions and giving your GP details. It is more likely that you have forgotten as a policy cannot be set up without those details.

You can complain about anything you like. That is your right. However, typically Halifax roll over pretty easy on the PPI side but fully investigate any complaint on Life assurance and CI. You also have to be wary that if yours is currently an auto payout rather than upheld complaint then asking them to investigate the CI segment as well could lead to them finding out the MPPI was not mis-sold either and withdrawing the previous offer.

Do you have any strong reason for thinking the CI part was mis-sold?

  • I remember being sold a product last minute before agreeing my mortgage...,I guess I assumed that there was only one policy... I cannot recall being sold two policies at all...., I have already been sent a cheque and accepted the ppi refund....i may have completed the paperwork but think that it was sold has one product

It is not two products. The Halifax TMPP is a multi-segmented plan. It can have MPPI, Life assurance, CI cover and income protection built into it. All options combined under a single plan.
