David Lloyd Couples Membership

Recently me and my mum signed up to the new David Lloyd gym in Worcester.
We were told we weren't allowed a couples discount because we are not a couple...
However, we are two people who live at the same address and even registered using the same debit card!
I asked David Lloyd what makes you applicable for a couples membership, and apparently the rule is you can't be related (unless married) and you have to live at the same address.
Does anybody know why this is the rule? What's the difference whether we're related or not?
Are they allowed to do this? It sounds to me like discrimination, if we hadn't told DL that we were mother and daughter and instead said we were partners would they have given us the discount??

I had the same problem with the proposed family membership, so I said my partner (my son) would be coming too, solved the problem, was your mom with you at the meeting, they don't know she's your mom do they, make her sign up??? Honestly I know it's not right, but I'd lie! Sorry I don't have any other suggestion! GOOD LUCK0
