do I have to peel the apples?

I have some bramleys, that I am going to bake with sultanas and cinnamon to have with my morning yoghurt. I usually peel and chop them. Can I get away without peeling, or would they be manky?

As long as the skins are not badly marked and you've washed them well they'll be fine, more roughage in the skin anyway..#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

There is nothing better than a lovely Bramley I have a gadget that I push through the middle that takes the core out and once washed I sit it on a baking tray with a spoonful of demerarra sugar popped down the middle then a wee bit of marmalade (I love lemon and Lime ) then a sprinkle of cinnamon and a 'top hat' spoon of brown sugar.Put in the oven to bake and a spoon of vanilla ice cream on it when cooked so it melts all over the lot Yum, makes a delicious pudding thats cheap as chips yet so tasty0

Sounds like you need an Apple Master. It makes peeling, coring and slicing apples so so easy!0

lol
but no, I don't need any more gadgets. I hardly ever need to peel apples so I don't think I *need* an apple masterIf I was processing loads maybe I would
Just worried the skin won't be all melty into the compote and will be bitty if I leave them on.0 -
hotcookie - just score through the skin around the widest part of the apple - this prevents them splitting in the wrong place and losing all your lovely filling! The diner can decide on whether to eat the skin or not! I think the skin is lovely! I love baked apples and for grownups sometimes add a dash of liquer to the middles, cointrau (sp) or Tia Maria! served with ice cream - lush!0

If you're making apple compote rather than actual baked apples then yes, I would peel them. Otherwise you're going to have big bits of apple skin in the compote. Of course you could bake the apples in halves and scoop the flesh out, or sieve it before you add the sultanas.Val.0 -
hotcookie - I misread your post I think! The bit about 'I usually peel and chop them' completely passed me by!
Thinking about it, I am wondering why you bake them? if you just want a 'comport' of apples then yes, I would peel them, but then put them in a saucepan and stew them with the other ingredients!
Sorry I got it wrong! Teach me to read OPs more carefully!0
