re covering sofa cushions help needed please

Hello i am hoping someone can offer a bit of advice,i am making new covers for the cushions on my sofa a hemingway the back rest cushions are attached with a zip (half on the cushion and the other half on the sofa frame) i was wanting to know are these special zips if so what are they called to look for some.Or are they normal zips split ? any help would be very gratefully received thanks Emma

They are called open ended zips if you put that into ebay you'll find lots... if you are removing the original covers you could utilize the original zips again..#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

They're open-ended zips (like the ones you'd get on a cardigan or anorak). But can you not carefully remove the existing ones with a seam ripper and re-use them? When I recovered my sofas I did that, or replacing them all would've added a lot to the cost of the job. I even recycled all the seam piping! Bit of a fiddle, but by buying fents (roll-ends of fabric) and re-using everything I could, I recovered two 2-seaters for less than the cost of throws!0
