If you ARE employed, then I think the church isn't paying you the minimum wage ... How many hours a week are they expecting from you? Do you get any accommodation in with that?
Is £200 per month plus expenses all they've been paying you until now? And is that what was set out in the offer letter?

Because there are issues around what you can reasonably expect of a volunteer as opposed to a member of staff. And issues around what remuneration you can offer a volunteer without creating a contract of employment.
MPs are getting into a similar pickle wrt paying interns. Historically they've paid less than the minimum wage, and now even that's going because they (say they) can't afford to pay that, so they're getting people to work for incurred expenses only.
It shouldn't be down to you to find out what the church SHOULD be doing, but I fear they won't unless pressed.Signature removed for peace of mind0
