So I am looking into tax rebates and wondering what counts. I am a supply teacher at he moment and work for an agency.
Can I claim the following:
1) Laundry Allowance - I have smart clothes required for work
2) CRB - I require this to work in schools
3) Fuel allowance - I drive to various schools in the area approx 150 miles per week
4) Teaching Materials - e.g. books etc. I have to have my own resources to hand
Is there anythinge lse I could include?

1 - No. They aren't clothes with your employing agency's logo on are they?
2 - Probably not - but I'm not sure.
3 - What is your contractual arrangement with the agency? If they act as an umbrella company, you could via the way you are paid - but they would have told you about this as they would be saving expenditure too.
4 - Possibly. I've never tried. Perhaps someone else will have a definitive answer for you.0 -

1) Agree with above poster that you can't claim for this as you can wear the 'smart clothes' out of school - its only applicable on uniforms with logos that you would not wear out of the workplace.
2) I am also a supply teacher and to my knowledge you cant claim anything back for this however one of my agencies reimbursed my full crb cost after 10 days work with them so may be worth looking into other agencies.
3) I get paid via an umbrella company for one of my agencies and can claim travel expenses - the allowance they give is 24p a mile (I think!) so for your example 150miles x 24p = £36. They take this off your pay, deduct tax and then add it back on. So you just don't get taxed on it.
But they also say I can claim for breakfast, if I leave before 7.30am, Lunch, if i am at school for longer than 7 hours and Dinner, if my working day is longer than 12 hours. Have heard stories though that you need to keep receipts and that it shouldn't really be allowed so I just claim travel. I do have to keep an extensive record of which schools I have been to, how far away they were and where I travelled from and to and can get asked to produce this evidence at any time!
More info from HMRC about travel expenses here
4) You can't claim for books/ resources as they aren't necessary as most schools usually have resources. I think you used to be able to claim if you were using a room at home as an office but they've stopped that now.0 -
            Thanks all0
