Its actually possible to reserve an item online for collection in store, they will go and pick the same item and charge you a different price to those who went in themselves.

Why else would they do this other than to rip off people?
Customer acquisition costs. There's the guy who understands computers, does his own product research, knows exactly what he wants, finds out where they stock it, orders it and collects it. He's cheap to sell to, but he's low-margin, because he goes for the price.

Then there's the guy who doesn't really know what he wants and has no confidence in his ability to make the right decision. He's always on the verge of saying mmm, dunno, have to think about it, and wandering off empty-handed. He's never going to buy through a website and a collection point. It costs money to get this guy into the shop and into the right frame of mind to take the box to the checkout. He pays that money.
"It will take, five, 10, 15 years to get back to where we need to be. But it's no longer the individual banks that are in the wrong, it's the banking industry as a whole." - Steven Cooper, head of personal and business banking at Barclays, talking to Martin Lewis
  • Look up Travis Perkins.....see what all they own!! All the same idea of companies so you feel like you have a choice/various prices but really its the same guy taking all the profits!
