Amazon Family - advice sought.

This new service offers 3 months free Amazon Prime membership for "people with young children". Despite this the site says on the 2nd paragraph of it's FAQ page "Anyone can join Amazon Family but the programme is designed for parents, relatives or other caregivers of young children."

When signing up, they ask for the name and date of birth of the children.

I want the 3 month Prime membership, it's a lot better than the one month offered as standard. I live with my partner, and we don't have children, although we have a cat.

If I put my cat as the name of the child, would this be wrong? (Given as I've already stated that they do specifically state that anyone can join.)

I was on the verge of signing up, but don't want to get into trouble.

here is the link to the terms and conditions,

w w w .amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/display.html?ie=UTF8&nodeId=200953810

And here is the link to the FAQ's
w w w .amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/display.html/?nodeId=200953530

(Sorry I tried to put the proper links to the FAQs and terms and conditions but the forum won't allow new users to do this. :( I'm not a spammer so maybe one of the moderators could edit the post to include the links properly. LOL)

Like you said they do say that anyone can join and if you are anything like my cousin with their cat then i would say u r not lying as through your eyes ur cat is ur baby until u have one of ur own !!! So my advice is go for it and allow ur conscience to overlook this one !!!!
  • she certainly is our baby..

    From the T&Cs:
    Conditions
To sign up to Amazon Family, you must have an Amazon.co.uk account. We will ask you to provide information about you and your family so that we may notify you of promotions and benefits which are relevant to you. We may accept or refuse membership at our sole discretion. The Amazon Family membership is for personal use only and not for the purpose of reselling products or services. You may not transfer your Amazon Family membership or the benefits associated with an Amazon Family membership.
So, it's not a condition that you must have kids. I think you're fine!

You're right - if you sign up for Amazon Prime, you get a one month free trial. With Amazon Family, it's free for three months!

With either program, the free period is a trial and you can cancel at the end of it, or pay £49 for a year's Prime membership. Do make sure you cancel in good time if you don't want to pay the £49 - they will take it automatically at the end of the one or three months.

Also looks like a good deal for anyone without kids who wants to buy some Christmas pressies from Amazon's baby store. Three months free Prime and £10 off in the baby store for free! (Again, so long as you cancel the membership)

Amazon are doing this so they can bombard you with emails about baby stuff. They know new parents are often suckers for all sorts of tat. ;) You should be able to opt out of the emails though (or, sign up with a spare email account that you don't mind getting spammed).

    I've been Money Tipped!
There's a bit on Mumsnet about it, asking for reviewers.
  • This is exactly what I was thinking.

I've subscribed to Amazon Prime free trial before but recently they sent me an email offering another. Then I saw this. Not worried about the email stuff, I can unsubscribe from that, but the ability to get all my Xmas pressies delivered f.o.c next day is very tempting.
