Bit of an odd one this....

please bear with me......
it has just come to light that i appear to have fallen into arrears with my mortgage ar some point in the last 6 years,no notification was given to me that i had done so until i received a letter from a "credit management dept"telling me they were handling the case and then in a later communication telling me they were coming to reposses the house in two weeks,i managed to avert this disaster however,my query is do the banks not have some sort of obligation to inform of arrears to try and allow the customer to put the matter right,i'd also like to point out that i had never even had a statement of the mortgage balance for 6 years!
I'd be delighted for any thoughts or feedback from any of you
