Cancelled PPI NRAM mortgage

Hi All,

I was unaware until recently that is was possible to claim miss-selling of PPI on mortgages, I'd love some advice please.

I took out a mortgage in 2000 with Northern Rock. At the time of taking it I was offered PPI, which I accepted and it was added to my mortgage and paid monthly. I wasn't asked any questions about eligibility or whether or not I was covered with my job or that I could take this cover with other suppliers.

In 2006 I cancelled the PPI as I realised I was covered through work with 6 months full and 6 months half pay. I wrote to NR to cancel and they duly cancelled the PPI.

My question is this, based on the fact I cancelled as it was not required and the fact they did not ask me any of the required questions, do you think I have a reasonable case for claim of miss-selling?

Thanks in advance.

actually you would have been, they would have your age, uk residency and employment status from your mortgage application. these usually the only eligibility requirements of PPI.
or whether or not I was covered with my job or that I could take this cover with other suppliers.
this may depend if you were given advice or not. the chances are if you were not asked suitability questions it were probably a non advised sale.

remember there is nothing wrong with PPI for your mortgage payments. PPI will pay out on top of sick pay so having sick pay may not be enough to consider it mis-sold. mortgage ppi is view differently to the other ppi's as this is protecting your house. your policy would have been monthly paid too, so no issue there.
