Do you ever make assumptions about the Gender of posters by their user name?
I reckon that I do, because I was surprised when I read a post today that said "He" when referring to one particular regular poster and I had always had an image in my head that this person was female. I wondered if anyone else did the same. Have there been any in particular that have taken you by surprise?

Just yesterday I had a PM from a member whose Username definitely leads you to believe they are male, but their name was just as definitely feminine, I was really surprised at that one.Luck is believing you’re lucky – Tennessee Williams

I think most are female, but there are a couple I think of as male. I think for me if I haven't a clue I just assume they are female as I am. There is one who has a name that suggests its female, but there is something about them that makes me think they are male. I want to ask, but dont want to offend. Who do we think are male and female then?Current Aims: Laptop/PC, decent money, holiday
Best Wins: Ipad, Nintendo 3DS, £400 Shopping Spree at LK Bennett, £100 Boots vouchers
Total Wins (Since April 2012) £3442.56
Big thanks to all who post comps :T:beer:0 -
Well, the one that I had thought was female, but someone referred to as "he" was Painkiller.
I am female (as my user name might give away).
The name One-Eye tends to make me think of a male, although I don't know why.0 -
Brill thread. I'm tempted to make a game of it. Suppose anyone who is happy to play adds to this thread, and then the rest of us can guess which gender they are. So far I'm guessing:
Marg - F
B-Sue - F

I think it's funny when compers I know to be female are referred to as "he" (and vice versa), but in general I don't think it's particularly hard to work out whether a regular poster is male or female although some have particularly misleading usernames eg. "Arthur1972" is not necessarily a 40 year old bloke.
Sometimes I've learned the gender of some MSE compers when their names have appeared as winners online and they have posted about their win in IWIWIW. Others have sent me PMs signed with their real name. Some posters have given the game away by referring to wives/husbands in their posts. Only once was I genuinely surprised when I learned the truth about one particular regular poster (and I'm not saying who that was).
As for me, many have assumed the wrong gender but I never take offence (and my username refers to my cat "Cyclops").0 -
I'm soooo laughing re our One-Eye. I've always wondered if your name referred to a disability. Now I know and I'm left merely wondering if your cat has one eye. As a punch line, 'One-Eye' is our name for most cats. It refers to the other end of a cat, when its tail is upI am brave, I am bruised
