Hi All,
I'm about to enter a DRO. I have myself a Natwest basic bank account and debit card, however I can only withdraw money from official Natwest or RBS cashpoints, the nearest one of those to my house is 3 miles away.
Does anyone know of any basic accounts that allow you to withdraw from all cashpoints (supermarket ones etc) ?
I have to avoid barclays and halifax however.

as posted above the co-op is a very good option. not only does it let you use any cash machine but its also a debit card. this is one of the only ones i could find that would let you have a debit card while actually Bankrupt / Debt Relief Order.
My one word of waring is they are either fraudsters or their system is shocking.
e.g. i pay £250 for an online shop at Asda. the £250 comes out after a day or two but is immediately un-accessible but the problem then lies in that another £250 is then held back.
Therefore for approx one week after shopping online i can not access £500 out of my account when only paying £250
I have had massive argument with them over this but they blame the fact im online shopping and will blame any online shop e.g. Asda, Tesco etc.
They also love pulling this trick on the friday of a bank holiday weekend0 -
When i was bankrupt i opened a Barclays CashCard account, Came with a Visa Debit card (Not a electron card), Full Visa debit card and works everywhere, including tesco's online, Petrol station pay at pump etc!0

I have a Co-op cashminder account. I've never had the problems contracts engineer has.
Unlike others you can do online banking with it too, pay people, set up standing orders, check balance/statements etc all online."Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. And if you can't help them, at least don't hurt them." Dalai Lama0 -
Barclays0

I have a Nat West basic account too. It is a bit of a pain when you go to a different cashpoint and it won't let you withdraw money, but all Tesco cashpoints are RBS, so you can use those too.0

why do you have to avoid barclays? If its because of debt with them, they will often give an account after the BR - just not beforeGetting fit for 2013 - Starting weight 10.1.13 88.1kg

Yes, Barclays can be an option. My ex OH went BR several years ago and Barclays were one of his biggest creditors and yet he still managed to open an account with them after he went BR.Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free

I use Co-op.....and have more than one account [for ease of...erm.... budgeting?]
I like them because I can manage them online.
The fact that updates are somewhat tardy really is but a minor inconvenience.
The Cashminder account actually does everything needed of a bank account.
Apart from, a cheque book [unnecesary these days] and an overdraught facility.
I actually need to use a cheque, probably..once a year...so carrying one around for the rare eventuality of a computer crash really isn't worthwhile.
Overdraughts can be fraught with danger....for sure, they allow for slight miscalculations, but they cost, and it is too easy to fail to zilch it on payday.
I have a co-op savings account, which can also be managed online.
If I detect that my running account [used for day-to-day spending, fuel, grub, etc...] might get near the bottom, simply [instantly] transferring a small lump from the savings account puts a buffer in place...a buffer which can be returned again come payday. [if worked nicely, then it is returned plus a little bit more]
In my mind, problems stem from only having the one account.
[my other account gets filled every payday...and is used solely for DD's, and essential payments like rent, leccy, CT, TV, etc...............and is otherwise not touched...apart from keeping a weather eye on it for those DD's which might be variable, like the phone?]
Co-op also...apparently, offer a text service for current available balances.
Not my sort of thing, as I ain't mobile savvy in the least!
Note, the Co-op accounts should all be opened, up & running before any sort of insolvency process is entered into. No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
On my co-op account I get a text once a week with current available balance, you can set it up easily enough online and works great. As for the delay on their systems I just keep a spreadsheet so I know what I've spent and tick off as it updates online - something I did on my old bank account anyway. It seems not being able to use at pay-at-pump (I've since used self serve tills in Asda with no problem so it was a one off problem I had with those when I first got the account) is my only problem so far, but not a big deal as I just go to pay inside now. I've found very little difference to my old First Direct account for day-to-day running as I never used a cheque book before anyway.0
