UHT milk doesn't last any longer than fresh milk when opened particularly outside a fridge, it might be work investigating smaller sizes.
    Good luck with it.

Powdered milk would probably be a good alternative then, and also more likely to be more cost effective

In the description this little packet seems to go a long way!

And just another thought - but maybe some jars of baby food

Bags of pasta and/or rice? Tinned curries, fray bentos pies, hotdogs, spam?
Personally I'd pack boxes with EITHER tea OR coffee. Or more likely, neither! It's not an essential. I'd rather have a few extra tins of beans. You need to think "nutrition" rather than "luxury".

    That's pretty contradictory!

I volunteer at a local food bank that has been going sometime. The list above by babyshoes is pretty much what we work to. We add fruit and veg as it is donated because it doesn`t keep for long.
The other thing we found was single people particularly men prefer a box with things you don`t need to cook.
Make £2 a day challenge - doing well so far.

I am a minister and we give out food parcels a-plenty. If you are asking for donations, then omit baked beans from the list as you will be inundated with them. You will have what you need in just the ordinary donations without specifying them, lol!

We only give dried and tinned goods, and will add it a loaf of bread (we have a weekly donation from a food warehouse, and so we freeze bread and add it in the parks when given out. The stuff that we have it here for sandwiches will be tuna, tinned meat and also jars of sandwich spread.

Over the last several years we have occasionally helped out friends and friends of family.

Toiletries and toilet paper are important things that food banks don't normally appear to give out. Shampoo, soap, deodorant, shower gel, toothpaste etc.

I know these items are not food, but they are important.

Fresh food is a good idea if you can get it. Not many years ago many people did not have fridges but shopped daily. A little fresh food would keep for a day or two in a cool place.

I would definitely include porridge oats as the winter is coming.
Also, instant mashed potato and milk powder.

;) Felines are my favourite ;)

    Pet food.

It would be a terrible thing to have to give up a beloved pet because you couldn't feed it.
Many people are more than happy to donate left over tins and packets of pet food to animal rescue homes when their pet is no longer with them. Perhaps they would also donate to a food bank.

When the Angel food ministries was running in the States they had online recipes tallied to whichever box was available for that week so I don't think people would be offended by helpful suggestions especially if they help stretch supplies a bit.

Wartime Farm had a bit this week about emergency feeding stations and they had such a meagre list t work with but worked wonders.
Maybe if you posted a list of contents here some of the posters can help with meal plans *you know who I'm hinting at ladies lol*
I can throw in a few maybe made with dry goods for you too

Best of luck with your endeavours X

Tea is not a luxury, it is an essential - at least, for me.

I will not, however, under any circumstances, eat baked beans. I detest and loath them.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.
