Hi all, does anyone know any companies who are willing to ensure a discharged bankrupt? I've been on the comparison websites and very few of the companies will actually give me a quote, the only one that will is about twice as much as I would expect to pay. I was discharged in 2009.
Thanks,
Tig.

Direct Line and Churchill don't ask, not had a problem with either and current claim being met without fuss0

Tesco's online do not ask the question, had no problem with them as an undischarged BRevery time I manage to get one more breath into this body, I will sing a song of thanks to you my brothers, my sisters, my friends, may your sleep be peaceful, and angels sing sweetly in your ears.0

I changed to Churchill just before my partner went BR and saved about 30% on what I was paying on an already competitive (but not BR friendly) policy. That did include an introductory discount and a further discount from having car insurance with them but also led to a discount on the car insurance renewal. The policy is almost due for renewal so I'll have to wait and see what they quote, not that I have a lot of choice with a (now discharged) BR in the house.0

I've got mine with the Co op but I got my renewal today and it's more than last year, despite no claims and now being discharged
So lurking to see suggestions!0 -

This thread should provide some help who provide cover to bankrupts:

Tesco's do ask now ;-(

Oddly they do for Home insurance but not for Pet insurance, guess they feel people with dogs are more trustworthy as BR's.. Nationwide do not ask and have trawled the policy document for any referene to BR and there isn't any so could be worth a punt.
Considering Insurance is about risk, what makes a BR more likely to claim than a non BR? if anything technically we could be seen as lower risk of defaulting on the premiums if that is what they are worried about as we cannot ramp up other debt.every time I manage to get one more breath into this body, I will sing a song of thanks to you my brothers, my sisters, my friends, may your sleep be peaceful, and angels sing sweetly in your ears.0 -

Be careful, although they may not ask the question outright they may make an assumption bankruptcy is not a factor and say you agree to their assumptions - or it may be mentioned in their terms and conditions. If a company doesn't ask it's always safest to contact them and mention it anyway as it's better to find out you are not eligible for cover at this stage rather than find out your cover isn't valid when you need to make a claim.
Others have found Tesco aren't BR friendly for home insurance unfortunately. Lend your support by tweeting @huwevans71 and @BritishInsurers to tell them insurers shouldn't ask about bankruptcy forever, after so many years they shouldn't ask at all. That's one way how we can change things.0
