Declaring second income

in Cutting tax
I am starting a new job, but my old job have asked if I will continue with some for them on a consultancy basis whilst recruit my replacement.
The work would be for one month and I would earn under £1,000 in total. I would be invoicing them for the hours I work, so my question is; do I have to declare these earnings and complete a tax return this year? Will I be taxed on these earnings? As it's a second income is it likely to be a lot of tax?
Any help really appreciated.
