Could you ask your mortgage provider to let you have a payment holiday for a few months? You may have sorted something out by then.

I could try but I'll put that off for a bit longer. I'm living on savings atm. I hate debt. But it is an option which I made have to use. Maybe I'm burying my head in the sand.

If you mean could I get retired or something through the insurance, I doubt it. I did fill in a BUPA form sent by the company which I think was to see if I qualified for PHI but I never heard anything about it. That was about 3 months ago.

Yes i did mean PHI. We have it at work but i believe it is hard to get on. They have also capped it at five years. Would be worth while if you investigated this avenue though. My comp pays 75% of salary.

It would be a lifesaver if I could, but I'm fairly sure depression isn't serious or long-term or quantifiable enough to qualify. Anyway like I said I filled in the questionnaire 3 months back but haven't heard back. I'm not holding my breath though.

We have this at work, we have quite a few people on it with stress and depression all sorts really but i do believe it did take months to sort out. My advise would be to speak to HR again and chase this up.
At the moment this is your best option.
Let me know how you get on, Good luck hope its ok

Sorry I haven't been back. Things aren't any better with me. I'm slowly sliding into debt. Am now getting incapacity benefit which is les than half the mortgage. Today got a letter from employer which says the independet/employer shrink says i've got non-chronic depression and am able to return to work. All I remember this guy saying is I get self-esteem from work. GP stil hasn't sent report to Bupa, but if I'm able to work ( per specialist ) that's pointless. If my employer goes by their pet specialist that they've paid for, what can I do ? It's cobblers but I can't afford to dispute it. I'm going to get fired but there's nothing I can do.

    Hi hmm,

Sorry to hear about your bad time at work, have been there before and it certainly isn't nice.

The psychiatrist that you saw sounds absolutely useless. I first saw one approx ten years ago, and he told me 'You're not depressed, you just don't like work'. Ten years on and I'm no better, and not in the same job, so they certainly do not always get it right. Have you asked your GP for a mental health referral? Hopefully, they'll be able to refer you to someone a lot more helpful.

With regards to benefits, do you have any dependants? If not, then unfortunately you are unlikely to get any further benefits at this time (mortgage interest help does not kick in for several months). Sorry I can't offer better news, the last thing you need is money worries.

Hope things get better for you soon.

    Take care x

are you in a trade union? Have you ever been?

I know its a long shot but i GOT a few hundred quid out of the hardship fund of my union, which kept the wolf from the door for a while.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
