Can I return flat pack furniture under the moneyback guarantee?

Hi all.

I've just bought this TV unit. However I'm unsure as to whether it's too low. As it's flat pack. Can I build it and take it back reflatpacked under the 16 day money back guarantee if I don't like it?

How does the 16 day guarantee work with flat pack furniture?

Thanks

They will accept it back as a return as long as it is in the same 'new' condition it was bought in. i.e. dismantled.

Also it is now '30 days moneyback guarantee'

i must admit i quite often refuse refunds to people who have attempted to build flat pack and then decide to return it, because of the problems we have with people putting items back into stock which have been damaged during the build/dismantle, or are returned with parts missing.

if the customer is polite and genuine, then i thoroughly check the flatpack (down to the last screw) before re-funding.

the money back guarantee states that items should be returned unused, in their original packagining with the receipt. the dimensions of the item are in the catalogue and on the website. im not sure i understand why you'll need to build it to see if it will be too low or not, but then maybe im just fussy after so many years of people trying to pull a fast one and abuse the money back guarantee (not implying that you're abusing the system OP, just genuinely dont understand why you need to build it to see if its too low)

  • Thanks for the replies.

When I bought it I thought it would be fine but then after measuring the height I became unsure. Then after opening the packaging the walnut look of the unit is quite different to my other walnut furniture also from Argos, so another negative. If there was a taller alternative then I'd go with that.

Am I abusing the system? I don't know, if the money back guarantee wasn't stated so much then it wouldn't even cross my mind to do this. As it is I thought I was taking advantage of this selling factor that Argos have not abusing it although I suppose that is a judgement call?

I'm still undecided as to what to do. Yesterday I was driven by impulse to get it built up, today I'll look for alternatives unless later I get impatient!

    Thanks

its one of those grey areas. some people are so careful packing, assembling and then dis-assembling the item that you'd barely know it had been touched. in this case i'd have no hesatation about issuing a refund. but i have seen people try to get a refund on an item that they've seriously damaged through assembling/ disassembling. you point out the damage to them and explain that yu cannot accept it back for a refund, and the story changes, and suddenly it was like that when they'd bought it - they've miraculuosly forgotten about laughing and joking with you 5 minutes earlier about how hard it was to put together  unfortunately, its the customers like that which tend to make you automatically suspicious. we try to treat each case on its individual merit, but when you get day after day of people blatantly lying to you to get their own way, you cant help but become a bit cynical

about the colour matching issues - is that within the same range of items?

  • I haven't even looked at since last night. I may have a go in the morning as I need to return to Argos about a missing game for an Xbox package listed in this forum! So hopefully I can build it carefully and then if necessary return it. Ideally I'll keep it and don't have to lug it back, trying to thing of a reason to return it and getting myself a guilty conscious and then looking supicious to the sales assistant!

Oh, I don't think they are the same range after looking again, they just all (6)come under the heading of Walnut.

    Thanks
