Barclays pre-approved loan

Good morning

I had a pre-approved loan on my Barclays online account this morning saying I had been pre-approved on a loan of up to £12700.

Went to the shop spend some money on my card, I logged back in to have a closer look at the loan and it has now disappeared.

Anyone know why?

  • I didnt apply for it! It was there when I checked balance, then 10 minutes later when I logged back in it was gone!

The offers don't stay on forever, they do seem to chop and change.
It looks like maybe you just caught it before and after it changed.

When you say you spent money on your card - if this was a large amount on a credit card with them then I suppose it may have been an automatic trigger for the loan offer to be removed.

    £4 v £11720 - not much difference!

Probably not the spending then! it must just be co-incidence. Were you hoping to apply for a personal loan with them? Just because there is no pre-approved offers - you still might be accepted if you applied.

  • No I was not planning to, but when that popped up on my online banking I was going to have a second look at it!

    But its gone now!

And some people wonder why people get into severe debt?! The banks are throwing it at people FGS.

Yes I know people don't HAVE to take it blah blah blah, but the banks HAVE to take *some* responsibility for lending people so much money, especially when they haven't even ASKED for a loan; they are just offering it anyway.

I am a bankrupt (Nov 2010) and I have had some 20 offers of loans and credit cards and payday loans from all over the place, dropping through my letterbox in the past six to nine months since discharge. No WAY would I take it though. But some people would.... And as I said, when financial institutions offer people huge loans left right and centre, no wonder people get into such a mess.

Don't take it pompey; although I am sure you weren't going to anyway. :)
