i'm just wondering if there are any ipod products or alternatives which will play your music but also allow you to download it directly to the device instead of having to plug into a pc / laptop?
so if you were out you could just download a song and pay all from your music player instead of waiting til you got home and buying it on amazon/itunes then moving it to your player?

Well I know it works for itunes (downloading onto an ipod/other apple device). But I can't speak for other devices as I don't have any experiences.0

so the ipods come with a wireless/mobile network connection built in?0

A friend of mine uses gtunes on his android phone, he tells me it works very well. If he likes what he downloads he then buys the cd from whoever is the cheapest. Not sure if you can do this on Apple.

I'm looking for a virus free website to start downloading music direct from the internet to a Samsung android mobile phone. Any suggestions of suitable websites would be most welcome. Many thanks.0

What about Amazon:
Amazon MP3 Store and Amazon Cloud Player customers can enjoy their music across the broadest selection of devices—including Android, iOS, and Mac and PC computers.0 -

so going back to my question, is the only way to get music directly on a mobile device, using a mobile phone? no dedicated music players have a wifi/mobile network connection on them?0

The ipod touch does, yup.
If you can get the wifi free (some cafes, some shops and other communial areas) then just hook up the wifi and start to download.
It downloads to your ipod if you opt to download this way, then when you hook it up to your computer itunes account it automaticly downloads/uploads this to the computer too (for free).
Just to pick someone elses brains- has anyone managed to hook up an ipod to the Amazon account and managed to download onto the device? So far I've only managed to download music from itunes via my ipod.0 -
I use Spotify Premium on my ipod touch and iphone and it's great. It also works with android phones and a few windows phones.

You can download playlists directly to your device to listen to when there is no wi-fi.
For £9.99 a month you can listen to/download as much as you like as long as you pay the subscription fee. If you only download a few songs a month then it probably isn't for you.0 -
Any device run android.
You can download from amazon music store0
