Change in Working Hours

Hi, need a little advice. Currently employed full time 35 hours a week, been doing this job since January 2011. Received a phone call today at home from my company telling me that as from next week my hours are being reduced by 14 hours, to 21 hours, effectively putting me on a 3 day week. They say it's due to lack of work.

What I need to know is how I stand on this, what rights I have, and what I can do about it. There were no discussions between them and me about this, simply a company decision. To be perfectly honest, I can't afford to lose 14 hours a week pay!

Depending on your personal circumstances you may be eligable for tax credits?

Do you have children, or a working partner?

Could you get another job or go self employed for 2days to make up the difference.

Is it a short or long term situation?

Does it just effect you or is it for everyone?

Have a look at one of the benefit checkers to see if you would be eligable for help with rent or council tax.

I'd be arguing diminuation of businesss and looking for compensatory payment (i'm not sure what it currently is ~£30pd)
