gas oven thermometer?

why are all the oven thermometers on sale have markigns for electric ovens. I have gas and suspect its not the right temperature. I presume they can be used in gas oven too and i just convert?

  • Do you mean that the thermometers don't have gas mark levels on them? They won't because that doesn't actually relate to a temperature but to the amount of gas going in. If you want to check the temperature then you can you should use a thermometer that shows degrees C or F. Most recipes show at least degrees C and a gas mark, so just use the gas mark number as a starting point when you turn the oven on but then check the temperature on the thermometer and adjust the oven accordingly to get the correct actual temp.
