gas oven thermometer?

why are all the oven thermometers on sale have markigns for electric ovens. I have gas and suspect its not the right temperature. I presume they can be used in gas oven too and i just convert?

Do you mean that the thermometers don't have gas mark levels on them? They won't because that doesn't actually relate to a temperature but to the amount of gas going in. If you want to check the temperature then you can you should use a thermometer that shows degrees C or F. Most recipes show at least degrees C and a gas mark, so just use the gas mark number as a starting point when you turn the oven on but then check the temperature on the thermometer and adjust the oven accordingly to get the correct actual temp.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0

don't know if it's any help but I noticed today in Sainsbury's, the Salter oven thermometers are reduced (half-price) instore to £5
