Is it dumb of me to still care on my last week?

This is my last week in my current work before I start a new job. Since I told my Line Manager he has not really bothered with me or included me in things. Am I still dumb to put effort in, in my last week?

It seems like I'm more bothered than people staying on.

Whilst it is tempting not to (and that is the way many would behave) I think you know it is the right thing to do.

In some respects, yes you are! But I'm the same, I can't not make sure that everything is in as good a state as possible when I leave. I don't want someone picking up a mess.

It's not dumb, it's a sign that you're a person that takes a pride in your work for its own sake rather than just a means of paying the bills. And good on you for that.

  • I used to do as much as possible: partly because I was doing the work for its own sake, partly because I wanted to leave without building any unfinished business and partly as a subtle form of revenge to show them what they were losing!

Any professional, adult person would do the same I think.

You are still being paid to do your job so try and do it the best you can, you never know, you may need to go back there one day.

Thank you for everyone's replies. Yes I just want to hand it back in the best state possible! And agree want to leave a good impression just in case I return one day (I hope not!).

You should never drop your own standards or attitude, as this is what makes you who you are in the workplace. Always try to give 100% whether it's your first or last day and remember the world doesn't owe you a living, you have to go out and earn it.

    Or get a job reference.

Assuming it's not company policy to NOT give any references. And who can guarantee the manager will give OP a reference because of hard work anyway?
