hiya I want to make a cheats chocolate custard using a tin of value custard & grating some value chocolate into it & heating - will this work? I want it to pour over ice cream (I'm sure my Mum used to make a custardy/chocolate sauce that set on ice cream when I was little) also would this be ok to keep in the fridge for a day or two (just in case there are any left overs)
thanks Sarah x

value chocolate wont work, all it will do is colour the custard.
I would put some 70% chocolate in it or melt up some good cocoa powder in a little hot milk. (not hot chocolate)
If you want it to be nice, spend a little more.
If you want brown bland stuff, buy the saver stuff, yak. Waste of your time and your money.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Why not just buy chocolate custard , its not very expensive.#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Choc custard will remain choc custard. But will taste better if you buy choc custard or use cocoa (and maybe a spot more sugar if you need it) rather than cheap milk chocolate.
3 to try, off the top of my head:
1. mix cocoa, butter and sugar in a pan then add some milk/cream. That sets as it gets cold.
3. gently heat some chocolate with some cream (works better than milk)
2. gently heat coconut oil and chocolate together, it sets like 'ice magic' once you've poured it on. Yum!Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

I might just try it & see0
