My sister is visiting from the USA. She really wants a 'retro' type Roberts radio. We understand it's all DAB stuff going on here, but will it work in America?
We've looked on US sites but they don't seem to sell what she is looking for. The link to the type of radio is here:-

Any advice (and quick) as she is returning to the US at the weekend.
Thanks in anticipation.

The USA does not have any DAB services, and Canada has stopped using DAB.
If the analogue radio is actually using a digital tuner, that may not work either. In Europe, AM frequencies are 9 khz apart (e.g. 531, 540, 549, 558, etc.), while in the US, they are 10 khz apart (e.g. 530, 540, 550, 560, etc.) On FM, UK stations usually use the even numbered decimals, e.g., 100.2 MHz. US ones use the odd numbers, e.g., 100.1 MHz
This one looks like it has analogue dial tuning, and without DAB will be quite a bit cheaper.
A mains adapter for the US will have to be purchased separately as the supplied one is 240V only.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
Bush and Steepletone have retro style plastic cased radios. Both are mains/battery but would require a transformer for mains use in US as they don't use a separate adapter.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0

Thanks for the reply Owain.
I've had a quick look at your links but will investigate further - appreciate your response. Eek, time is running out for her return to America and maybe shopping tomorrow!!!0 -
John Lewis usually have a selection of Roberts radios in stock. They also do the Tax Free Shopping scheme so your sister can reclaim the VAT.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0
