You should search the threads on this board. It won't take you very long to find a few posts on home tutoring for this kind of thing.
Anything involving childcare is better off taught in a college setting. Most home learning courses linked to childcare/teaching assistant etc are not accredited and you might be wasting your money.
Distance learning is great for somethings but is hopeless for other things (For instance - I couldn't teach you to ride a horse from a text book, you need to be in front of me AND on a horse). Anything with a practical element needs a hands-on approach, look at your local colleges and see what they offer. There are three types of people in this world. Those who can count and those who can't.0 -
Surely most courses will consist of a placement element which will assessed and reviewed (NVQ) - how would a home course facilitate this?Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0

Thanks everyone, not had chance to get on here till now, i would prefer her to do a college course but she is insistent she wants to do it at home...if i can prove to her enough that its best not done at home then i think she won't bother doing it to be honest....i'll have a read ayway, thank you once again0

Get her to speak to someone in the industry and 99% of them will confirm a home study course is basically of no use as there is no way of assessing practical ability.0

I have researched this and have discovered that there are some home courses that are mapped to the NVQ requirements etc, so that you have the theory complete and then just need to gain the practical experience.
It is worth spening time on the web and chatting to potential employers.
I am in the same position as i currently work full time and want a career change to childcare, but want to be sure before giving up my current career.
I am gaining volunteer child care experience on a saturday and looking for an evening volunteering opportunity also - is this something your daughter could look into?Weight loss challenge, lose 15lb in 6 weeks before Christmas.0 -
Hi.
I have the Diploma in Childcare and Education which I've had for 14yrs and work as a before and after school Nanny. I am also currently doing a distant learning CACHE Award in supporting teaching and learning in schools but I have been lucky enough to get a voluntary post in a local reception class on a Friday otherwise I wouldn't of done it through distant learning.
She could write to some of the local nurseries and see if any are offering apprenticeships
alternatively she could work towards a Childrens and Young Peoples Workforce Certificate Level 2 if she finds a Nanny/Mother's help placement up to 16hrs per week with at least 2 preschool age children and this will be funded. Contact me if she would like the contact details.0 -
Get her to contact her local FE College and enquire about1. Apprenticeships
2. ESF Workplace Learning funding
This way she may be able to get more appropriate qualifications for free, for less or even get paid to get them.0
