Pedestrian Vs Motorbike...

This collision happened in broad daylight but I can see what you mean about the high viz... I wear bright yellow.. You'd think it would do! And reflectors for night riding as I commute.. Planning to stockpile a few more pieces! Cause my headlights are clearly not enough..
Yes cars are guilty of not checking blind spots.. Men are guilty of being a little too 'progressive' as clearly a big bike means a male rider and women are guilty of not checking mirrors.. However many many considerate careful drivers who make up for the minority..
Now if we can train pedestrians as well...“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent".0 -
Ive had to tap on windows of cars who decided to change lanes with me next to them.
Maybe swap the Hi=Viz to a Pink Panther costume? Im sure you would get noticed.
Yeah. Undertaking was probably the wrong choice of word. But passing on the left is always risky. Im sure next time your on the left of a bus you will think twice before passing it. Probably think the same fom the right also.

I've had that happen to me in the bloody Mondeo on the M4/M5 junction, only replace the tapping window with driving over the rumble strip and into the hatched area while laying on the horn and putting my foot down*.
They made no effort to change direction despite this and then decided to flash and give two fingers.
Honestly, it seems like bikers have no chance with some of the people on the roads.
I suppose someone is going to deride me for driving into the hatched area of a motorway junction but I figure the "except in an emergency" clause of HC130. It happened here. Both of us were heading west, I was on the northmost of the two lanes, having just come off the M4 from Wales. The other person came from the southmost lane and instantly changes lanes to their right without looking. The whole area is currently a 50 limit with SPECS cameras, so they were probably staring at their speedo.
* I was sufficiently far forward at the point I realised they were changing lanes that I decided that accelerating would get me clear of their side faster than braking would.0 -

My bike weighs 200kg... I think people assume they mightn't hurt as bad as a car or lorry. Its insane what I see on some roads...
it's not so much as the bike been hidden behind the post, but the pedestrian's view being hidden by a pole (a bit like how a driver's a pillar might block the motocylist).
I know this is unrelated in your incident but let me explain. If a pedestrian is on a crossing just 2 ft behind a traffic signal pole. That pole will block a pretty big chunk of the view. The further the vehicle is the more it will block. With enough distance it can even block a whole van.0 -

Reminds me of Father Ted.

Forgetmyname some outfits I have are unsuitable for public viewing...:A..however a pink panther outfit might be required...I have tapped on windows and screamed at people who have one hand on the steering wheel using the other to clamp their iphone to their stupid head! One middle aged man in particular was taking a very tight corner in central london doing exactly that - looked surprised as I was able to get so close to him...
Lum no judgement here.. a white van man pushed into my lane today on a roundabout... he got honked but they don't care. He was driving like a right eejit though ( Father Ted reference taken on board as I am Irish ..lol...).. and will get his come uppance...
Divine retribution...? Dad, Mum and two kids in a Chelsea Tractor pushing through traffic in Finchley North London - very heavy traffic... they seem intent to getting passing me and angry when I was able to slip passed them. I know the roads and the speed cameras... Dad did not. He sped passed me at an opening in the traffic thinking he "beat" me as his maneuver was a little dangerous.. he got flashed. £30 fine and three points hopefully...:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T...
LondonTiger I do understand what you mean... but the distance a vehicle should be at, that would be enough to obscure a pedestrians view indicates a good length of time whereby a pedestrian "should" generally have enough time for them to get across said road. Or at least make a sound judgement based on the distance of van / vehicle / lorry and how quickly is it getting "bigger" towards them...
Even if they are a complete plank and unable to judge distance vs speed = how long it will taken to get flattened...:p“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Which makes it even more of a problem for a bike. Cars are 99% of road users so people don't expect to see a bike. The same situation in Vietnam would not happen because the proportions are reversed. It's why the phrase "sorry mate I didn't see you" is so common. It's so easy for a pedestrian to take a quick glance with a pole obscuring a small part of the road and just not see a bike (whether push or motor). Add the that the fact that our brains actually only resister any object when the eyes are stationary and they constantly flick around a few times each second and it's easy to miss an object you are not expecting.
"Look once, look twice" is a phrase used for a reason..0 -

It'll be £60 and 3 points which is even sweeter.0
