What's the best colour bed linin to last/durability?

Options
Hi,

I'm on a really low budget and need some new bed linin. Can anyone advise what colour is best for a long-life/durability and ease of cleaning so I don't have to buy any more for ages once I buy this set?
My current bedding which is falling apart is navy (and whilst it has lasted a long time I have never been that impressed as it seems to attract fluff, hairs etc and never even looks clearn even after it has just been washed). Plus the colour faded ages ago and so it was looking worse for wear for ages. I'm attracted to a lighter natural colour like white or cream or beige but can't afford to keep shelling out for new stuff all the time and wondered if this will stain easily.
I'd be grateful if anyone could make recommendations for the best colour to suit my needs.
Many thanks

  • I would go for white or cream - looks and feels nicer to me, plus any marks can be spotted and dealt with asap. And if all else fails you can boilwash or bleach it, and if THAT fails you can dye it :)

White. It doesn't fade and you can bleach stains or hot wash it.

:) I agree; white or cream.

White cotton sheets can take all sorts of a hammering inc bleaching if necessary and be washed at 90 degrees if necessary. They'll go with everything.

I have plain cotton burgundy duvet covers and pillowslips, just got them for nowt, but they look fine, although like your navy ones, they do show bits etc.

If I was buying new, I'd go for white duvet covers.

  • oooooooh thank you so much for the advice. I was wondering if that was the case as they have white in hotels and hospitals etc but wasn't sure if that was just for hygiene reasons. Is cream just as easy to remove stains as white is? xxx

I got a pale cream set for £16 (double) from Primark.

OH worked nights at the time so our linen got used & washed more than average.

It outlasted the linen mix set i forked out over £60 for

And yes, 60 degree wash/ soaked in biotex......it took some hammer!:D

I'd go for white....in fact, I do! Our bedroom get full sun for most of the day and anything else, even expensive stuff, fades! White may yellow slightly over time, but this is over years. Easy to mix and match, and you can add colour with cushions/throws. Matalan is good if you're on a tight budget.
  • Right then I think a trip to primarni is in order!

For stain removal ability should I ensure the bed linin I buy is 100% cotton? Will poly/cotton ones have less stain removing potential? xx

    White.

    Pure white.

Because its easy to mix and match when bits do eventually wear out yet still look crisp and coordinated. Plus, if you find more expensive pillows lips in white with a detail you can 'upscale' for comparitively little expense AND often plain white with no detail is available in higher thread counts for the same amount of money...and the thread cou t is where it's all at for longevity and frankly comfort.

I can tell without seeing whether we have our college and early adult sheets on the bed or our 'better ones' from the feel on my skin.

Definitely white - that's what we have and it's so easy to keep clean. As long as you get fairly decent quality cotton stuff then you can boil it, bleach it, whack it in the sun and it'll look as good as new for years.

We have white stuff from Ikea that has crochet and pintuck detailing, and then I pretty it up with some vintage pillowcases, coloured cushions and a patchwork quilt.

Another vote for white here. It looks really fresh and streamlined too.
