Am I missing something here, I always thought spring bulbs need to be planted now ready to come up in the spring time. Surely the answer is Autumn?? I am ready to be corrected!

I think you could be right. The text in the article reads...

Although we call them 'spring bulbs', they should be planted in autumn. It is not until after the cold winter spell that they develop into an amazing flowering plant. Bulbs can be planted from the beginning of September through to December.
