hi people
i have been looking around for a HD DVD player!
have just found this one: http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/GENNA/261/341/-/3256625/Philips_DVP5960_DVD_Player_With_HDMI_DivX/Product.html?searchtype=genre
it has an HDMI output! does this mean that if i connect it to my HD TV via a HDMI cable the picture will come out in HD or are there any other cables, etc that i will needd?
many thanks in advance!

This is not a HD DVD player I'm afraid. So no it will not come out High Definition if you plug it in no matter what cable you use.
However you should notice some improvement in picture if you connect it up using a HDMI cable.0 -

Can be picked up cheaper elsewhere at the moment
eg PC World (from the dreaded DSG) at £49.99 + £5 del
Laskys (ie Comet) £49.99 free delivery
Evesham Technology model DVP5900/05 - £49.98 - long standing/reputable bunch
and maybe other "Easter deals"
do a search on http://uk.pricerunner.com at least
All these players have a processor for UPSCALING the DVD's native/inherent picture quality/resolution to the higher 720/1080 HD standards.
People tend to buy them for several reasons
- better image quality than regular DVD albeit by 'interpolation' (ie artificial quality)
- digital connection from initial decoding avoiding dig->analogue->dig
- if SCARTs on HD TV already used then uses HDMI/DVI socket instead
Some people really like them, others reckon their HD TV's internal upscaling technology does a reasonable enough job for them.
Personally I bought a £80 Sony upscaling DVD player for my folks for Xmas and think it was worth it - nicer pix 1080i.0
