Slow cooker help.

Options
Hi,

My beloved slow cooker has given up the ghost and I am looking for a new one. I have looked online and would ideally want to spend sub £20 if poss and it has to be able to feed 3/4.

Has anyone seen any good deals on their travels please. Many thanks.

Our expirience of modern Slow Cookers is that the run at a lot higher temperature than older ones.

A Car Boot sale is where I would try.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.
  • Currys had some in a sale a couple of weeks ago. Might be worth checking to see if it's still on. Amazon prices can be good too but change rapidly, so pounce if you see a bargain!

We got ours from Argos at least 5 years ago and it's been great.
But I got this one for my mom, hubby's mom, sis-in-law from Tesco and they are all happy with theirs

Thanks they look great, are these quite big? Could you fit a chicken in if you wanted to? I thought this size was too small but if its not i will reserve the argos one asap as thats a great price. :j

Over the £20 budget but has auto cook

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003WE9CGO?ie=UTF8&!!!!!shopwiki-uk-21&linkCode=as2&camp=1634&creative=6738

    Auto cook

This setting starts cooking on high and after an hour continues to cook on low. Although not all models have this function, many believe the best results are achieved using this particular setting.

I think so, I've never out a chicken in but I have done a large boiling bacon joint in there.
I usually use mine for a 2 day stew with dumplings in, so 4 or 5 portions.
Bare with me, my Tesco order will be here within the next half hour and I've ordered a chicken so I'll see if it fits with room to spare for gravy/carrots etc :)

  • Comet had a sale on last week. Offers are scattered around the store and not available online. If you are local to one give it a wee look. We got a coffee maker for £4.19 last week!!!

Here's the chicken in my slow cooker, it kept sliding round lol

I never put any veg in with it as I'm going to be roasting it. I think it would be better skinned and portioned anyway as there'd be loads of fat cooked that way, and the gravy wouldn't be very nice.

I dod remember we do make a chicken drumstick and thigh stew and DH does make a fab chicken wing soup in there too.

It would be big enough for one meal for 4 or 5 people but not more than that I'd say. :)

But if you buy one much bigger you will waste electric by heating too big a pot.

Have to agree there. Looking at modern ones they are comparative energy guzzlers at 250w. My old faithful Tower Family Deluxe 4405 with a 2.5l stoneware crock & lid, from 1984 and still going strong, uses a mere 80/105w.
